Abstract:Abstract: The central nervous system (CNS) is composed of an enormous number of neurons and glial cells. It regulates many important physiological activities as well as higher cognitive functions such as learning, memory, and thinking. Because neurons and glial cells are generated by neural stem cells, the research of neural stem cells is of great importance. Drosophila melanogaster, as a classic model organism, has long been used in the study of proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis of neural stem cells, and has made significant contributions in these areas. Herein, the latest research progress in neural stem cells of Drosophila was summarized. It included the origins and types of neural stem cells, the key proteins of asymmetric stem cell division, the quiescence, reactivation and terminal differentiation or death of neural stem cells, and the generation of neuronal diversity. This work may be helpful to the fundamental research on neurobiology.
