Abstract:Abstract: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease. Neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) formed by hyperphosphorylated tau protein are one of the critical pathological characteristics of AD. Mitochondrial impairment plays an important role in AD mechanisms and occurs in the early stage, closely related to tau protein. The impairments of mitochondrial dynamics, morphology, autophagy and functions brought by tau protein were summarized. In addition, the practicability of AD drug design in terms of preventing mitochondrial impairment was discussed.
