Abstract:Abstract: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a common neurodegenerative disease in the elderly, and its etiology is complex. Recent studies have found that long chain/very long chain saturated fatty acids are deposited in the brain of AD patients, and diet rich in saturated fatty acids increases the risk of AD. Direct administration of long chain/very long chain saturated fatty acids to nerve cells can increase the level of AD characteristic molecule β-amyloid protein (Aβ) in cells. These results suggest that long chain/very long chain saturated fatty acids are closely related to the occurrence and development of AD. The relationship between long chain/very long chain saturated fatty acids and AD and the role of these fatty acids in the formation of Aβ are reviewed in order to deepen the understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of AD.
