Abstract:Abstract: Oxidative stress is the common pathological basis of most diseases. Molecular hydrogen (H2) acts as a therapeutic antioxidant by selectively reducing highly active oxidants—hydroxyl radical (·OH), and may be an important way of preventing and treating diseases. Currently, hundreds of human diseases could potentially be treated with molecular hydrogen. Medical studies on hydrogen have gradually become a hotspot and been carried out in cells, organs, animals and also in humans. However, the biological mechanisms related to hydrogen remain to be studied and explored in the future. Here, recent progresses are briefly reviewed toward biological effects, molecular mechanisms, intake methods and clinical applications of molecular hydrogen.
