Abstract:Abstract: Microsatellite or simple sequence repeat (SSR), as a molecular marker technology, has been widely applied in molecular biology researches. With its advantages of high polymorphism, repeatability, codominance, and high heterozygosity, SSRs plays important roles in studies of population genetic diversity and genetic mapping. Recently, with rapidly developing high-throughput sequencing, the method of development and application of SSR marker technology has been improved. The new technology of SSR development based on high-throughput sequencing was introduced here, and SSR applications in genetic diversity, genetic mapping, cultivar identification, and molecular breeding in recent studies of economic plants were reviewed. It aims to give a view of the application of microsatellite markers and provide references for economic plant research using this technology.
