Abstract:Abstract: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is one of the main causes of low back pain, which seriously reduces the patients’ quality of life and imposes a heavy economic burden on their families. Cell senescence is the key factor driving IDD, and many factors, including inflammatory response, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, telomere shortening, DNA damage, nutrition deprivation, abnormal mechanical load and epigenetic changes, mediate the senescence process of intervertebral disc cells. Herein, the factors related to intervertebral disc cell senescence in the process of IDD are summarized for the subsequent research.
