Abstract:Abstract: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) plays an important role in plant growth and development. A proper concentration of ROS is necessary for plants, whereas ROS accumulates in large quantities when plants suffer stresses, which leads to inhibition of plant growth and development, or even to death. In order to maintain the homeostasis of ROS, plants have evolved a series of ROS production and scavenging mechanisms. The research progresses of ROS production, scavenging and its regulation mechanisms in plants under stresses in recent years are summarized in this paper. Particularly, the ROS scavenging and its regulation mechanisms at transcriptional and post-translational levels are summarized, and the further prospects for the research on ROS metabolism and regulation mechanism in plants are proposed.
