Abstract:Abstract: Senescence triggered by cell-cell fusion is common in placenta of normal development, which is usually mediated by a specific group of endogenous retroviruses. Cell-cell fusion induced senescence plays critical roles in multi-facets of pathophysiology, for instance, mammalian embryonic development, immune responses, tumor suppression and tissue reparation. In addition, the abnormal expression of fusion induced senescence can not only lead to embryonic diseases, but also lead to the malignant transformation of normal tissues. Nevertheless, the underlying molecular mechanisms of cell-cell fusion induced senescence are still unclear. Here, the initiation factors, phenotypic characteristics, functional characteristics, regulatory pathways and the potential application of the cell-cell fusion induced senescence are described.
