Abstract:Abstract: Mitochondrial transcription termination factors (MTERFs) are widely found in metazoans and plants. At present, the study focused on MTERF protein family includes two invertebrate mitochondrial transcription termination factors, sea urchin mtDBP and Drosophila D-MTERF. Both are involved in terminating transcription, and have also been implicated in transcription initiation and regulation of mtDNA replication. This multiplicity of functions appears to be a theme in the MTERF protein family, and the current understanding of these two invertebrate termination factors can provide insight into the complex and diverse regulatory roles of MTERF protein family members, as well as the mitochondrial transcription termination process.
