Abstract:Abstract: Scrub typhus, a natural foci disease caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi infection, is transmitted to human through the bite of trombicula mite. The disease is widely distributed in Japan, eastern Asia, northern Australia, the Pacific west and southwest, and the Indian Ocean region. Fever, rash, eschar and lymphadenectasis are the main clinical manifestations. Orientia tsutsugamushi mainly infects human endothelial cells, may also be present in the dendritic cells, macrophages, segmented leukocytes, lymphocytes, and lives an obligate intracellular life. Research progresses on immunological mechanism of Orientia tsutsugamushi infection offer a new way for therapy of scrub typhus.
